Getting engaged is one of the most joyful moments of your life. But once the champagne has been poured and the photos have been shared, many couples hit a wall: where on earth do you start? This 12-months wedding planning timeline guide will help you do things in the right order, without the overwhelm.
12 MONTHS OUT
Set your overall budget together. Be honest about what you can realistically spend and what you're comfortable borrowing or accepting as a gift from family. Decide on your approximate guest numbers this will determine almost every other decision you make. Choose your rough date and location. Start looking at venues immediately. 10–11 MONTHS OUT

8–9 MONTHS OUT

6–7 MONTHS OUT
Send save the dates. Book your entertainment band, DJ, or live musicians. Source your stationer for invitations. If you're having a multicultural or Nigerian wedding, begin planning both ceremonies in detail, including attire, aso-ebi fabric, and traditional elements.
4–5 MONTHS OUT
Send formal invitations. Book accommodation for out-of-town guests if needed. Begin designing your décor and sourcing hire items. Finalise your menu and confirm dietary requirements.
2–3 MONTHS OUT
Your on the day coordinator takes over all supplier communication if you've hired one. Confirm all bookings and review contracts. Create your detailed day timeline. Complete final dress fittings.
1 MONTH OUT
Final RSVP chase. Confirm guest numbers with your caterer. Prepare your payments schedule and settle outstanding balances. Brief your wedding party on timings and responsibilities.
THE WEEK BEFORE
